Image Rugby and Coventry Support Group Launch at Myton Care Centre

An open invitation has been extended to people with motor neurone disease (MND) and their carers in the Rugby area to come along to a new support group which started on Friday 22 March.

The support group will be held on the last Friday of alternate months at the Myton Support Hub, St. Cross Hospital, Rugby from 1:30- 3pm.

Sam Tooze, who has MND, decided to set up the group with the help of the MND Association.

I was excited to start the group as I felt people in and around Rugby had too far to travel to get to other support groups in the area. Travelling can be difficult with MND so getting a group going, closer to people in the Rugby area, was really important. Support groups are great places for people to take time out, relax and chat through their experiences in a non-judgemental space.

We are extremely grateful to be partnering with The Myton Hospices to host new support groups for people affected by MND in Rugby and Coventry. These friendly and informal gatherings offer a fantastic opportunity for people to find out more about local services, the support available from the MND Association and to meet others who are affected by MND – all in one room. We’ve been determined to find ways to improve the support for the MND community in Rugby and Coventry, and we’re delighted these groups are now launching.

Marianne Grant, MND Association Area Support Co-ordinator.

When Marianne and I first met we knew there was a need in the local area for people with MND and their carers to be able to meet up with others and to relax and be themselves. So far we have discussed accessible cruise holidays and respite care for loved ones, as well as chatting about services we can offer. There was a lot of cake eaten too!
